SWAZI DELTA

PROJECT DESCRIPTION :

The Swazi Delta project was a new Vehicle showroom, workshops and offices for a motor dealer.

The building consists of a three storey reinforced concrete frame structure with columns, beams, retaining walls and flat slabs. The roofstructure is structural steel roof trusses, metal roofsheets and aluminium bullnose facias.

The structural design of the building was complecated due to the fact that the building is built in a swamp area with a vey high watertable. A complete subsoil drain system is installed under the building. This system is connected to a new stormwater pipe-system. The building is founded on loadbearing piles with reinforced concrete groundbeams.

Another significant design aspect was the fact that the outer columns are placed outside the building. The building is connected to these columns with reinforced concrete corbels. These columns and corbels are architectural features and had to be specific size, increasing the shear loads.

The shopfront windows are huge aluminium windowframes with safety glass placed between concrete columns and steelframes.

The petrol canopy consist of a structural steel frame with aluminium bullnose facias and is linked to the building.

The parking areas are paved with concrete blocks and the access road is surfaced with asphalt.
