KOMATI BRIDGE

PROJECT DESCRIPTION :
The bridge, comprising a seven-span continuous prestressed concrete box girder, was designed to be constructed using the incrementally launched method.
The hollow box-type reinforced concrete piers were founded on spread footings that were dowelled into granite.
The substructure consists of six piers, a closed abutment and a spill-through abutment. The centre pier is the tallest at 35 metres.
The bridge is 305 metres long and is located on a fairly tight curve of constant radius. The deck is designed to accommodate two traffic lanes, as well as two raised sidewalks.
